Elierslie Events Are Endowed With More Than Usual Interest
All eyes will be • upon the Alison Cup field at Ellerslie this week. With the approach of important handicap, sprint and cup races, all events at Ellerslie are endowed with more than usual interest, and the form of two and three-year-olds will bo watched with the classics in mind. Rosslare, 8.12, and Swanee, -8.10, two good mares, have pride of place in the Alison Cup field. Roslare has not raced since October 1, when she ran unplaced at Tc Aroha over six furlongs. The easing of the tracks this week will be in her favour If at all forward, she is assured of solid support.
‘ mare of high class Swanne is a mare of high class and may be among the favourite. Wonder Boy has 8.6. His chances are more or less measured by the state of the going. The possibility of soft ground would enhance his prospects. Quick March, which has 8.4. needs firm ground to give of his best. Maricrana, 8.3. likes it soft. She is small and, above 8.0, has 1 work hard for success.
Ruling Master and Huntore have 8.1. Ruling Master does not hold form well and is somewhat unreliable. Huntore seems to have made progress and could easily upset this field Some of his best form as been «hown about this time in past seasons. Bramble Leighon, ISA is likely to be among the favourite. He won in tine style over one mile at the last Elierslie meeting and ran oe expected to run prominently on sa - mday. Vice Chancellor is handily placed with 7.7. Martial Song. 7.2, needs soft ground to give of his best. Beau Rosa. 7.1, also goes best when the sting is out of the going. Paul is the only other above {he minimum. His efforts at, Whanga-

rei were below standard. Lady Finis would also have to improve on her •showings last week. Kyrat has not raced well for a long time. Bridge Watcher, 7.3, has not run since finishing second to Bramble Leighon over a mile at Flierslie. He has run all his best races in easy ground and should be equal to a good race.
BEST OF LIGHTWEIGHTS Fifth Note and Aylesbury have no recent form. Pola was second to Huntore at Cambridge on October 22 and has made progress with his racing. Kauri Pine should be all the better for his race at Rotorua. He has pace. Beau Astaire ran fourth in the Mitcheison Cup and a useful sixth on the second day. He may be on the verge of form. He appears as one of the best of those ' i the minimum. In a field where betting is likely to take an unusually wide range, ViceChancellor should run solidly, while Swanee, Bramble Leighon and Llosslare are assured of supporters.
The Ellerslie pair, Wonder Boy and Bridge Watcher. ill increase in demand if the going stays easy, while Quick March will be fancied if _ the going is firm. Huntore and Kauri Pine may be the best of the others.
THE SPRINTERS Veteran Sleepy Fox heads the Shorts Handicap field with 9.7 He is still healthy and keen. Regality, 9.0, is somewhat unreliable, although looking well. Akbar. 8.12, e-:' be relied upon for a sound effort. Super Vaals, 8.11. is a greatly unproved horse and will probably be among the favourites. Brown Derby just won over six furlongr at the last meeting. He is also in the Ponui Handicap. liizzio, champion sprinter of

last year, has 8.9. He is well forward and, if he begins correctly, should be a worthy opponent for any of the field. His barrier manners are bad but he is one of the great sprinters of tile past decade. Robin Leigh is dropping in the weights and may return to form soon. Coonbridgc, 8.7, has rim a couple of disappointing races, but may atone the first time he strikes good going. General Menteith has G.O. He has an outside chance, but he is not a good beginner. Angeline, '.9, is quietly fancied in some quarters. Cornishmau and Parawera have 7.7, and the former may be the better prospect. Gold Pal and Gwen Vaals have 7.5. Gold Pal has ability and should do well. Gwen Vaals likes easy going. Beaufighter, 7.3, would have to improve. Happy Issue failed to win at Whangarei. She is r gooc mare and may do better this week Lord Foxbridge ban a usefu fifth at the last meeting and -nay ’ making progress. Rare Fox, Master Shikari and Gold Point have 7.0. Gold Poin* is now on a handy mark.
If he begins correctly, Rizzio should figure in the finish, while Gold xal and Gold Point look the best of the lightweights. Super Vaa , Angeline, Akbar and Sleepy Fox may carry most support of the others.
The Australian aborigine George Kapeen will probably meet the New Zealand welter-weight boxing champion. Clarrie Gordon, in a bout in the open air this month. The likely place is Carlaw Park, Auckland, and the probable date November 28. Kapeen narrowly won the first bout between them at the Auckland Town Hall on October 17.
