Film Society Programme
■ wwawi j Screening six films, the Whangarei Film Society had presented a varied programme on Tuesday night. New Zealand News Review featured the spring round-up of cattle on the Government-owned Molesworth station in the South Island. This was followed by another film using that station as a basis for showing the ravages of soil erosion. Methods of combating erosion were fully described and illustrated. Filmed in natural colour and featuring the work of the Children's Health Camps in the Auckland Province, “The Letter’’ was greatly enjoyed. Of particular interest were the scenes at the Maunu Camp and the amenities provided. The other camps depicted were Campbell’s Bay (Auckland) and Waikato Heads. "Voices of Malaya” very vividly illustrates the post-war problems of that country. The struggle by tjie four main elements of the people—Malay, Chinese, Indians, and British—as to who shall rule the country are explained in detail. The reconstruction of industry and country-life, with its attendant problems, emphasises the need for a definite policy. A tour of some of Auckland’s light industries was portrayed in “Industrial Auckland”.
A musical film featured Arthur Tracey (The Street Singer).
