Manpower Crisis In British Mines
LONDON, Wed. (10 a.m.) —Threatened with a new manpower crisis in the mining industry the Government is considering the removal o*. tbi restriction which ties a man to the pits from the time he has completed his initial three months training until he is 50.
Mining experts have suggested that this restriction deters young men. who might otherwise become coalminers.
The situation is being examined by the Ministry of Fuel and Power. Before the war there wex'e 778,000 workers in the British pits and now there are 709,000.
