Nursed Governor In World War I.
AUCKLAND, Sat. (Sp.)—A former V.A. who nursed the present Governor General of New Zealand (Sir Bernard Freyberg, V.C.) when he was wounded in France during the First World War, arrived in Auckland yesterday. She is Mrs R. P. Willock, wife of Air Vice Marshal R. P. Willock, RAF (retired), civil aviation adviser to the United Kingdom High Commissioner in Australia,
Mrs Willocks, who had Sir Bernard among her patients in 1916 or 1917, said yesterday that he was then already a much-decorated officer with a great reputation for personal gallantry. Although the Central Park swimming pool will not be officially ready for use until Monday, the fact that it was filled with water was sufficient to encourage quite a number of boys and girls to use it this morning to escape from the almost oppressive heat.
If this weather continues there is little doubt that good use will be made of the pool by lunch-hour swimmers next week, by which time the spring board will have been erected and the swimming place will have received its final cleaning.
Amertcan troops who admit paternity of children in Germany may return temporarily to marry the mother. The United Slates Army authorities in Europe had no objection to troops returning to Germany on leave for such weddings.
