Labour M.P. Hopes For Royal Pay Outs

LONDON, Wed. (1.30 p.m.).—A Scottish Left Wing Labour member of Parliament (Mr Emrys Hughes) today gave notice that he would protest in Parliament that cuts in annuities paid to the Royal Family were not included in the economy measures announced by Mr Attlee.

Mr Hughes hopes that his protest will be discussed in the House, but it is uncertain whether time will be found for it.

Annuities granted to the Royal Family' for their state expenses include £IIO,OOO for King George and £40.000 for Princess Elizabeth.

Mr Hughes had yesterday complained in the Commons that soldiers of the Royal Guard in Scotland had been used as beaters in grouse shooting.

The War Minister (Mr Shinwell) replied that the soldiers had volunteered when they were not required for military duty to be employed as,, beaters with the Royal shooting party.

All of them were fully-trained soldiers and the employment did not prejudice their military training.
