Obtained £25 By False Pretences '
Joseph Thomas Preston, 39, of Auckland, pleaded guilty before Mr W. C. Harley, S.M., In the Whangarei Court this morning to having obtained £25 from Harold Millington, of Maunu, by false pretences. Preston had falsely represented that he was purchasing a milk bar in town for £4OOO, had paid £SOO down, and needed £25 for rent which had to be paid on October 20. He had been / convicted for similar offences in Auckland, and was serving probation following a conviction in June, the police said. Preston had his present probation extended for a year, a special condition being that he must not gamble or be seen in company with bookmakers. He was ordered to take out a prohibition order, and to make restitution of the £25 at the rate of £1 a week.
