1000 Killed In Guatemala Storm
WASHINGTON, Tue., (11 a.m.).— The Guatemalan Government has informed the State Department that it Is estimated that 1000 persons have been killed and 72,000 made homeless as a result of floods, and damage may be near “catastrophic proportions". The Guatemalan Government asked the United States to send supplies by air and help evacuated stranded villagers. The Government reported the immediate need for clothing, medicine and other relief supplies. A message from Guatemala City said some villages remain isolated. > The situation of Guatemala City’s 260,000 inhabitants is growing daily graver. It is estimated that it will take two weeks to repair railways and highways.
