Pigmeat Grading Sought By NDPC
The introduction of grading stan dards for pigs is again to be sought by the Northland District Pig Council, which, at its meeting at Whangarei yesterday, resolved to reopen the grading standards question at the next executive meeting of the National Pig Industry Council. This decision was made as a result of a resolution put forward by Mr J. M. Dawson (Kaitaia), seconded by Mr C. F. Smith (Whangarei). “As far as the Pig Breeders’ Association is concerned, any scheme put forward by breeders for an improvement in pigs, has been shelved—and is waiting for grading standards to be introduced,” said the 'chairman (Mr F. D. Miller).
The superintendent of the pig industry (Mr A. Longwilt) said that when the subject had been considered by the National Council, the vote had been against grading. Representation on the council was now such that the producer vote, if unanimous, could carry a remit to introduce grading standards.
Lieutenant-General S. F. Rowell will become Chief of the Australian General StaiT when Lieutenant-Gener-al V. A. H. Studcc retires on April 16 next. He is at present Vice-Chief of the General Stall'.
