2oz Increase In Buffer Ration From October 24
WELLINGTON, Wed. (Sp.).—A two-ounce increase in the butter ration will start on October 24. The Minister of Supply (Mr Nordmeyer) announced this in the House of Representatives last night. “Just in time for the election,” was the comment from the Opposition benches. “However." he continued, “we are reluctant to jeopardise the meagre ration in Britain, but this was recently increased from three to four ounces a week, and Britons now have eight ounces of spread a week, compared with six ounces in this country.
“Nevertheless, there is still a very serious deficiency of fats in the United Kingdom, particularly edible fats. “It should be possible for some people in New Zealand to save domestic fats.” said the Minister.
“I know that many are doing this, but more should do so and send the fats home to Britain. “The Government gave every consideration to the possibility of abolishing butter and cream rationing, but it is satisfied ©» th« evidence that it is
