WELLINGTON. Wed., (Sp.).— One provision of the Gaming Amendment Bill makes it an offence punishable by a fine of up to £SO, even to have in one's possession, a ticket in any raffle or sweepstake not authorised by the Minister of Internal Affairs. Another clause prohibits persons from printing, preparing, or having in their possession, tickets, vouchers or documents to be used in connection with bookmaking or the laying of odds, or with any game of chance or illegal lottery. A maximum fine of £'so is provided. The bill also proposes to increase the penalties for betting on sports grounds. The maxifnum fine for a first offender, is to be £2O, and for a second or subsequent offence the penalty may be a fine of up to £SO or imprisonment for not more than one month. Constables may arrest offenders without a warrant. The definition of “sports” has been widened to include wrestling and dog races.
