Gold Dredge Workers

GREYMOUTH. Tue. (P.A.) - Provided the agreement is ratified by the Arbitration Court, gold dredge workers will receive an increase in wages as a result of recent negotiations in conciliation council at Christchurch. The increase agreed upon by the Gold Dredge Workers’ Union and the employers is a general one of ssd an hour.

As the industry is at present conducted on a 48-hour week basis, the increase will be over £1 a week. The clauses governing hours of work and general conditions were agreed to in substantially the same form as in the existing award, permitting the industry to continue on a 48-hour week basis, with "penal rates for week-end work.

The new daily wage of winchmen will be £l/15 / 5, and the lowest daily rate will be £l/10/-. Under the expired award the rates from £l/7/4 to £l/9/8 a day.
