Suva Entry In 18ft Championship

AUCKLAND, Tue. (P.A.) Suva yachtsmen are building a special new 18ft yacht to compete in the James J. Giltinan world 18ft championship trophy contest in Auckland in January.

In a letter to Mr D. H. Skelton, secretary of the Auckland Flying Squadron, which is sponsoring the contest, a Suva official states that the new boat is expected to be finished about the middle of November.

It will then race-off in a series of selection trials.

Mr Skelton said today that word was expected from Hongkong this week and further challenges might come from Brisbane.

The contest is for 18ft unballasted single-hulled yachts which may be half-decked, but contain no watertight compartments.
