Two Escape From Prison
WELLINGTON, Mon. (P.A.)—Two prisoners escaped from Mt Crawford prison early yesterday. They stole a rowing-boat and crossed the harbour to Pencarrow Lighthouse. Strong police parties searched the surrounding areas all day without success.
The men’s absence was discovered just before 4 a.m., and when a row-ing-boat was -missed from Karaka Bay the police search was extended to the east side of the harbour. The boat was found later near Pencarrow Lighthouse. The men are Robert Bernard Howe, 28, and Oliver James Reece Bull, 25. Howe, who is sft Bin in height, has dark brown hair hazel eyes and a scar high on the right side of the nose. He is serving a sentence for robbery with violence. Bull is 6ft in height, with brown hair and brown eyes and two scars on the left side of the face. He is serving a sentence for breaking and entry with theft. Both were dressed in prison clothing, but may have stolen civilian garb. No further trace had been found early this afteunoon of the two prisoners.
