Bay Of Islands Pony Club Annual Meeting
KAIKOHE, Mon. (Sp.).—Success of the pony club movement in (he Bay of Islands was evident on Saturday, when a large crowd of active riders and supporters attended the annual general meeting of the Bay of Islands Pony Club, held on Mr F. G. Dibbles property, Lake Omapere. The day began with a gymkhana at 11 a.m., when 30 riders were mounted. The annual meeting proper started at 2 p.m.
Among the offices to be filled was that of district commissioner, to which Mr Dibble was re-elected. The secretary (Mrs A. E. R. Hemvood) and treasurer (Mr A. D. W. Woolcott) were also re-elected.
examination by merit that there could eventuate an equal standard of horse* manship in the club, said Mr Dibble. Visitors at the meeting included two enthusiasts from the neighbouring county of Whangaroa—Mr C. S. Williams, FRCS, and Mr G. B. Hayes. They sought information on the necessary conditions for formation of a pony club in Whangaroa. A meeting is to be held in Kaeo next Thursday night and Mr Dibble will be in attendance. He will be accompanied by seven junior instructors from the Bay club. The purpose of their trip will be to demonstrate what can be done in a year. YEAR’S PRIZES AWARDED Opportunity was taken at the Bay of Islands Club’s annual meeting to present prizes compiled during the year on points allotted for the various rallies on the best-turned-out horse, on equipment and dress. Winner in the senior division was Jim Flood, of Okaihau. Intermediate winner was Leo Flood, Okaihau. Junior victor was Malcolm Edwards, Kaikohe. The day was patronised by people from all sections of the district and by some from farther afield. The gymkhana took the form of a display, and no competitions as such were staged. The club’s next rally will be at Mr Dibble’s property on October 8. when it is expected Whangarei riders will take part.
The committee will consist" of two delegates from each of the four subbranches Kaikohe, Kerikeri, Pakaraka and Okaihau.
It. was staled during the meeting that there were possibilities of another two sub-branches being formed shortly. Another possibility was the holding of rallies at Black Bridge, Puketona, to suit the convenience of riders from Kerikeri, Pakaraka and the Ohaeawai and Waimate North districts. • It was decided to reduce subscription fees for adults from £1 to 10/-, and for intermediates from 10/- to 5/-. However, juniors’ fees will remain unchanged at 2/6. TWO MORE SCHOOLS PLANNED Speaking at the meeting, the district commissioner said the club was now over its initial and formative stage and was beginning to acquire certificated young people. There were now 10 members holding their C certificates, and it was hoped to hold two more schools of instruction this year, when certificated instructors from Hamilton would attend, giving these members a chance to gain B certificates.
