Dominion-Wide Guide Week
Starting on October 2. a Dominionwide Girl Guide Week will be launched. The week will commence with church parades on Sunday to be followed in the evening with a broadcast over all national stations by the Dominion president of the movement (Lady Freyberg). Lady Freyberg will make a special appeal for more leaders to enrol, as there are long lists of children waiting to join the ranks of the girl guides but who are denied through the lack of guides. During the past 12 months the membership has increased by 2000. Throughout the week rallies, parent evenings and special meetings will be held. In addition two forms of service will be undertaken. These will be “international service,” and “home sendee." The former will include the sending of parcels including vegetable and flower seeds, tinned foods, stationary and school requisites, bandages and medical supplies to Rewi Alley's Cooperative School in North China. Home service will consist mainly oi assistance to elderly people. IDENTICAL CAMPFIRE On October 8, all guides throughout the Dominion will gather in small and large groups round campfires at identical times and join in singing the same songs and carrying out the same progremme. At Whangarei this will be held in Mail* Park. In conjunction with the week special displays will be placed in shop windows. The church parade in Whangarei has been cancelled, owing to the lack of a suitable hall. The Town Hall is not available. International service will be carried out individually by each group in fire area.
