Mutton May Be 1d Cheaper
From Monday next the price of mutton in Whangarei butcher shops will probably be reduced by Id per lb, following a decision of the Auckland Master Butchers’ Association which today announced a reduction in its area. , , , Th'e president of the Auckland association (Mr A, W. Scotting) said that the supply of fat wethers had improved and that butchers would voluntarily pass the benefit on to the public. . . At Whangarei this afternoon inquiries revealed that the ’ local wholesale schedule for next week had not yet been received, but butchers considered that the prices would certainly be brought into line with those ruling in Auckland. SUPPLY IMPROVES Butchers are at present operating without Price Tribunal control, and, in this de-control period, they have fixed among themselves the selling levels for various types of meat. The retail price has been in relation to the wholesale figure and, as the the advance of warm weather and the supply of fat sheep has improved with generally favourable climatic conditions this spring, prices have dropped during the past week or so. For these reasons a reduction of Id per lb in mutton prices is anticipated next week.
