Nearly 6000 Entries
AUCKLAND, Wed., (Sp.).— A record total' of nearly 6000 entries has been received for the Auckland Competitions Society’s festival this year. Three years ago when Auckland held its first festival .there wefrfe some 3000 entries, and last year the number increased to over 5000.- % The festival will begin on Saturday and continue until September 3. The adjudicators are. Mr H. Temple White, vocal: Mr Harry Brusey, associate vocal; Miss Dorothy Davies, piano; Dr C. Naldon, violin; Mr Barton Ginger, elocution; Miss Coqstance McDonald, dancing, and Mr David Bothwell national dancing.
Cost incurred up to January 31, last in the reconditioning of . the liner Monowai. after her war service', totalled, £1,696.464, Australian currency, according to the report of the Controller and Auditor-General (Mr J. P. Rutherford). »
