Consider Water Schemes For Otaika
A decision to leave the matter to the settlers who would benefit, was passed at a meeting of Otaika settlers iast night, when the proposed water scheme was discussed. The Whangarei Borough Council recently decided, on the recommend ation of the engineer (Mr I. A Cromie) to make available 6000 gallons of water a day at the Kaigoose Valley corner. The Otaika settlers had asked for an extended service toward Mangapai and Maungakaramea. As the supply, which will be made available at Kaigoose corner, will be of benefit to those settlers on the hill from the Portland turn-off, it was decided to leave it to them to negotiate with the council and make their own arrangements. This supply would be through a master-meter, the settlers paying the entire cost, which was estimated at £587. The main Otaika water scheme will be put into operation in about six or seven years’ time.
