Ranginui Loads Whangarei Cargo
By utilising permanent employees, who are also members of the Auckland Waterside Workers’ Union, the Northern Steamship Company, Ltd., was able to load them.v. Ranginui with her normal cargo df general merchandise for Whangarei. Only one gang was ava : lable, necessitating a longer delay in Auckland than normal, but the vessel is expected to be at the Whangarei Town Wharf in time to commence discharge at 8 a m. As the members of the Whangarei Waterside Workers’ Union will be engaged on the collier at Portland, nonunion labour will be called for tomorrow morning to handle the Ranginui. According to information available this morning, the union men expected to be. free to handle the Ranginui tomorrow afternoon, but the morning’s work would have been lost on the ship if non-union labour was not called in the absence of the unionists.
