Finding Houses For New Settlers
WELLINGTON, Mon. (P.A.) The immigration division of the Department of Labour and Employment has a problem now that the Dundalk Bay settlers are ready to join the Dominion labour pool. It wants to find homes for them. Many jobs have been offered, but too few are accompanied by promises of accommodation. The department thinks its task is not "finished until the immigrants are properly housed, sijs well as,in suitable employment. Of nearly 1000 migrants who ar-rived-at the end of June, 128 will have left the Pahiatua camp by today, and it is expected that another 225 will leave by August 25. Accommodation is easiest to find for single people without dependants. A worker, with dependants is a more difficult case. • Most of these will go to farms and works camps where there are cottages. However, they have to provide their own furniture and effects. Help .is being given by allowing wives and children to go on living for four weeks in the camp, board free.
