Plea For Power To Ironstone Lands

KAIKOHE, Wed. (Sp.).—A plea for reticulation of the ironstone area at Kapiro and Waipapa, north of Kerikeri, was made by Mr A. Riddell, at the Bay of Islands Power Board meeting yesterday. There was already power through to a small mill in the area and Mr Riddell said it was unquestionably bound to become one bf the North’s most productive farming districts. Most of the land at present uncultivated was in Crown title. The Crown was now bringing in 500 acres experimentally and there was a possibility that another 500 acres might later be brought in. CHAIRMAN’S VIEWPOINT. The chairman (Mr G. H. McKenzie) agreed that great possibilities were ahead for Waipapa. There were 40,000 acres of land, almost all of which was potentially good farmland. “If it should ever be developed it would be not only an advertisement for this county but for the whole North,” said the chairman. The assistant-engineer (Mr R. JEt Clarkson) discussed some of the woiil done and being done by his staff in th» area. It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the engine®*.
