Oil 'Gusher' At Moturoa Well

NEW PLYMOUTH, Wed. (Sp..) When the tubing in the Moturoa well of the New Zealand Oil Refineries, Ltd., was removed for cleaning, the pent-up pressure sent a column of oil more than 90ft into the air, to the accompaniment of an ear-piercing roar. Eecause of the limited capacity of the company’s refinery, the output of the well—the most productive yet sunk in the New Plymouth area—has been restricted by “chokes” to 1000 gallons a day. When it was found that the tubing was becoming blocked, it was not considered necessary to take elaborate precautions to control tne flow. Since enough crude oil is in hand to keep the refinery operating for some , time, the well bore has been closed > until the tubing is replaced.
