Woman Brutally Struck With Shears

TIMARU. Saturday (P.A.) Miss Lucy Jean Underhill, postmistress at Pareora, about eight miles from Timaru, was brutally attacked by a man. who hit her on the head with a pair of hedge clippers. Later a manwas arrested in the Pareora district. Her father and sister heard hex screams for help and found her in a distressed condition, with injuries over the left eyebrow and on the left hand. The assailant had disappeared. Constable W. Shepherd, of Pareora, found an abandoned bicycle on the road near Brooklands Hill and soon after saw a man running through a p’antation with a coat over his head. A search party was organised, and the country between Pareora and Timaru was thoroughly combed. Member of th search party on the foreshore of the beach north of Pareora saw a man who was caught by two constables. He will be charged today.
