MISSION MEETING. A meeting of the Otaika Women's Mission Guild was held on Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs Robertson.

In the absence of the president (Mrs Middleton), the vice-president (Mrs Brough) conducted the meeting. The speaker for the afternoon was Mr’Nobbs, whp is a Sudan missionary and who was accorded a vote of thanks for a very interesting address. The hostess served afternoon tea. WDFF MEETING.

The Puwera branch of the WDFF met on Wednesday in Otaika Hall. The president. (Mrs McDonald) opened the meeting with the reading of the Creed and the Lord’s Prayer. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the late Mrs Lord, Senr. and the late Mrs Tavinor, Senr.

Delegates appointed for the August provincial meeting were Mesdames D. Cox-Smith and D. Kerr.

The trading table did brisk business. Competitions resulted: Best bloom, Mrs Wordle.y 1, Mrs Pascoe 2, Mrs Paki 3. Anecdote, Mrs McDonald Musical, Mrs McLean. Luncheon and afternoon tea were served.

A commendable action was performed by 10 senior boys of the Fakipaki School, • near Hastings, when they formed a cordon around the scene of an accident and so protected younger children from coming into contact with live electric-power lines. A vehicle had crashed into a pole, causing the lines to fall over the main highway. A young girl was about to touch one of the wires when she was quickly pulled away by one of the boys. The youthful guards remained at the scene for over an hour, until a power board repair gong removed the danger.
