Object To Boat ShedsOn Beach
A protest signed by lu propertyowners at Ngunguru, regarding the Whangarei Harbour Board’s proposal to erect boat sheds along iho beach, was received by the board at its meeting today. Forwarding the letter of protest, Mr W. G. Attwood stated that the board intended to start from his boatshed near the Ngunguru store and peg out and allot 10ft boat sites up the beach as far as needed. “Instead of listening to the Beautifying Society about putting all the boat sheds on our beach don't you think the section-owners facing the beach should have been consulted?” Mr Altwould asked. , “Many are, as 1 am, retired and with our houses facing the sea. We like to see everything that passes, not boatshed roofs blocking our view and spoiling the beach. IN A QUANDARY Explaining the position, the chairman (Mr E. L. Whimp) said it had been decided that the board’s lands committee and the chairman of the County Council should meet the Beautifying Society and discuss boat sites. The board decided on certain sites after being assured that the society had the confidence of the Ngunguru people. Now several property-owners were raising objections. “I do not know whether it is advisable to carry the thing any further, or what to do with this matter,” the chairman added. Mr H. E. Hewlett remarked that the section-owners were entitled to have their point of view considered.
It was decided to refer the letter to the committee which had been set up in conjunction with the county chairman to meet the propertyowners.
