Admits Theft Of Over £IBOO

WELLINGTON, Wed. (P.A.)—Twelve charges of theft, involving £1869/10/10, were preferred against Pearson Wagg, 49, clerk, in the Magistrate’s Court today. He pleaded guilty and was committed by Mr T. E. Maunsell. S.M., to the Supreme Court for sentence. The charges alleged that Wagg, a previous employee of the Wellington Publishing Company, had stolen the money from the firm between March 29 and April 30 this year. Accused, in a statement to the police, said he had begun taking small amounts to meet debts and gambled heavily in an endeavour to make up deficiencies.

Detective-Sergeant Scott gave evidence of arresting accused in Melbourne and bringing him back to New Zealand. The magistrate refused bail.
