Kaitaia Couple Holiday In Fiji
After holidaying in Fiji, Mr and Mrs A. S. Holder, of Kaitaia, returned by the Matua last week.
They were impressed by the cheapness of travel in the islands, and were able to make a week’s bus trip, with full accommodation, for £7/10/-.
As a farmer, he was interested in the climate and general conditions of the islands, and was intrigued by the change in vegetation which marks a .'visible line between the wet and dry areas.
Mr Holder remarked on the comparative speed at which native labour worked.
He saw sacks of New Zealand potatoes being unloaded in Fiji on slings 15 at a time. In Auckland, with every mechanical aid, similar sacks were loaded on slings six a* a time. En route home Mr and Mrs Holder visited their daughter, Miss Mary Holder, who is a trainee at the Whangarei District Hospital.
