Tito Wellington branch of the union adopted the councils direction by an ovn whelming majority at a slopwork meeting yesterday afternoon The meeting, which began at 1 o'clock, ended .just, before -I o’clock, after which Hie men put Ihe hatch covers, on ships and went home fur tiie day. If-lIOUK WEEK The walking delegate (Mr J. E. Napier) stated after the meeting that work would be restricted, as in Auckland, to 41 hour.-: a week instead o! the usual 59 hours. The hours worked would be tram 8 a.m. to 5 pan. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
These hours would apply until the union’s demands had been met. Auckland wulersidors decided on June 27 to accept no overtime at night on the ground of dissatisfaction wild decisions on recent walerftont disputes, and the shorter working day lias re-
sulted in marked shipping congestion at the port.
