Portland St John Ambulance Display

Little interest was taken in St John Ambulance activities in Portland, said the superintendent of the Portland Nursing Division (Mrs C. Hanna) when commenting on the attendance of only five women at the display held last night. 1 In spite of the poor attendance the full programme of nursing activities was given.

The present strength of the division, which was registered in 1941, is nine women from Portland and Otaika. Another similar display in the drive for new members will he held in Otaika, where the division hoped that more interest would be shown.

Mr S. T. Barnett has been appointed Under-Secretary of Justice and Con-troller-General of Prisons in succession to Mr B. L. Dallard, who is retiring after 42 years in the Public Service. Mr Barnett will take up his appointment from September 1.
