Schemed To Defraud Migrants To Dominions
LONDON, Mon. (1 p.m.).—Two men who schemed to defraud would-be migrants to Australia and New Zealand were sentenced to imprisonment at Old Bailey today.
John Frederick Keith Cork. 34. an pnemeer. was sentenced to 18 months and Tames Tenatius Rodgers, 40 directo- of the Panama Pacific Shipping Line. Ltd, of Liverpool Street, London. was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment. Cork and Rodgers were found guilty of conspiring to induce people to pay money in respect of fares to Australia
and New Zealand with intent to defraud and of obtaining money by false
Their action was described in court as a “very mean and contemptible fraud on unfortunate people, some of whom parted with their whole life savings to pay for passages." The ticket the victims received were worthless bits of paper, the nm&ecuiinn said, ' r t.iW&v
