Mr James M. Lewis, OkaiSiau, 90 Today

Mr James M. Lewis, an old identity of the Waihou Valley, Okaihau, celebrates liis 90th birthday today. Mr Lewis’ parents came to New Zealand on the Breadalbane and settled at Whipu. At the age of 30 he travelled north and on a dairy farm in the Waihou Valley. Mr Lewis still enjoys reading, and he likes to talk of the hardships of his youth when settlers had to bring everything into the district by bullock wagon and pack horse. He is still in good health and, up to a few years ago, enjoyed riding and was always seen in the hay fields with his pitch fork.
