Contract Prices For NZ Cried Milk

WELLINGTON, Fri., (P.A.).—Mr W. Marshall, chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Product Marketing Commission in a statement today gave details of long-term contracts for Uie sale and purchase of dried milk powders and evaporated milk, which the commission recently concluded with the United Kingdom Ministry of Food. The statement says the contract, for milk powders covers six production seasons, commencing on August 1, 1949, and ending July, 1, 1955. Before May 1, 1953, the parties will discuss the desirability of further' extending the period of contract in the light of circumstances then prevailing. For evaporated milk the contract covers three production seasons, end--ing July 31. 1952.. MAXIMUM QUANTITIES

The maximum quantities of various products which can be tendered in any one production season under the contract are given as: Spray skim milk powder 13,800 tons; roller skim milk powder, 5000 tons; buttermilk powder, 6600 tons; evaporated milk, 250.000 cases (48 16oz tins per case). The statement says it should be understood, however, that additional quantities can be offered year by year to the Ministry outside the contracts. Prices for the 1949-50 production season, in sterling per hundredweight, delivered f.o.b. ocean steamer, are: Spray skim milk powder, 81/3 (501 b pack, 77/0 (1121 b pack). Roller skim milk powder, 65/- (801 b bag pack). Buttermilk powder, spray processed, 65'- (801 b bag pack); roller processed, 60/- (801 b bag pack). Evaporated milk, 30/- per case. Prices for the remaining seasons of the contract are subject to annual negotiation. It has been agreed, however, that the prices for the 1950-51 season shall not vary by more than 7J per cent from those fixed for the 1949-50 season. BUTTER AND CHEESE Referring to ' prices for butter and cheese, Mr Marshall said he had been asked what prices were being paid to Australia, as it had been reported here that Australia would receive the equivalent in New Zealand currency of 256/10 per cwt for butter and 140/61 per cwt for cheese. The correct figures, however, with New Zealand prices given for comparison, were: Butter, per cwt, Australia 251/-, New Zealand 252/6; cheese, per cwt, Australia 140/-, New Zealand, 141/6.
