Australian Bored Master's Visit
A quick visit to Whangarei, where he attended the Hora Hora School as a boy, was paid on Tuesday evening by Bandmaster George Dickens, of the Rockvale Salvation Army, Sydney. Mr Dickens was the guest of Mr R. Davies, of Maungaturoto. Mr Davies is bandmaster of the Salvation Army at Newton, Auckland. ■ Bandmaster Dickens is in New Zealand by invitation of the leading Salvation Army bands and came towhangarei primarily to meet the musicians attached to the Whangarei and Dargaville Corps. Mr Dickens, who "was accompanied by Mr Brock, of Maungaturoto, was welcomed by 26 bandsmen and songsters. Following tea an adjournment Was made to the Salvation Army Citadel, where Mr Dickens was introduced by the officer in charge of the Salvation Army in Whangarei (Captain G. Gray). Bandmasters A. H. Vyle, of Whangarei, and J. Walker, of Dargaville, and Captain N. Stark, also spoke. Various items were presented by each of the musical combinations present—the two bands, the Whangarei Songsters and the Male Parly.
