Ladies’ Teams For Country Week
PAST PERFORMANCES
Mrs R. E. McCracken, sole selectoi for ladies’ hockey in Whangarei, has announced the two ladies’ teams to represent Whangarei at the Country Week commencing in Auckland on June 13, and concluding on June 13. They are: A: M. Frood (captain), G. Brown, M. Finlayson, L. Ashton (Old Girls Gold) C. McGregor, A- Shepherd, P. Rasmussen (Old Girls Blue), J. Allen (vice-captain), N. Warin, H. Potter (NAF), E. Hudson iMaungakarameaj L. Wallbank (Kara). B: R. Kerr (captain), (Hikurangi). A. Attwood (vice-captain), N. Robinson, E. Walker H. Crawford, V. Hudson (Maungakaramea), C. Cotton, H. Holland, B- Banton, E. Draflin, (Mangapai), D. Franks (Old Girls Blue), A. Ralls (NAF), P. Edge (Maungalapere). Mrs McCracken is manager.of the A. team, and Mrs R. J. Allen the B. All players are requested to attend a practice at Kensington Park at 10.30 on Saturday morning. Each team contains 13 players, which allows for one emergency back and one emergency forward.
Eight of the A team represented Whangarei in the A.s at Country Week last year. They were E. Hudson, L. Wallbank, C. McGregor, P. Rasmussen, M. Frood, M. Johnson, J. Allan, and N. Warin. Of the remaining five, three—A. Shepherd, M. Finlayson and H. Potter—were in last year’s B team at Auckland, and the other two—G. Brown and L. Ashton—are breaking into representative hockey. C. McGregor, P. Rasmussen and M. Frood were also selected last year to play in the New Zealand tournament at Dunedin for Auckland Country. This team was chosen from players participating in the Country Week tournament.
Last year’s captain of-the A. team. S. McGregor, was not available for selection.
In the B team, three players—A. Atwood, H- Crawford and D. Franks—went to Country Week last year, and the remainder consists of young players who have been selected with the view to training them for future seasons.
