Air Terminal On Priority List

CHRISTCHURCH, Thu. (P.A.)—Establishment of an overseas air terminal at Harewood was placed first on the list of priority works drawn up by the executive of the South Island Local Bodies’ Association. The list is to be forwarded to the Government.

Other works on the list in order of priority were: Development of tourist trade and access to tourist resorts; improvement of the main north-south highway from Nelson to Invercargill, with special reference to a new bridge across the Waitaki River; completion of the Nelson railway gap; completion of the Haast Pass road; ChristchurchLyttelton tunnel road. Development of hydro-electric work was placed first equal on the list, but it was pointed out that the Government Was already pushing this work to its utmost, and it was decided to express appreciation for the way in which the Government was going ahead with this work.
