CASE FOR SHIPPING DECENTRALISATION
THE problem of ensuring adequate representation for small ports when the question of decentralisation of shipping is considered at the forthcoming Harbour Boards’ Association conference in New Plymouth was discussed at the monthly meeting oi the Whangarei Harbour Board today. “I think that this will be one of the most important eonierences Whangarei delegates will ever attend,” said the Goveihment representative on the board (Mr R. H. Allan).
The chairman (Mr E. L. Whimp) said that the smaller ports whch supported decentralsation would have to attend the conference in full force.

“The major ports are allowed four delegates each, and can muster a combined total of 20 votes,” he said.
“If the small ports attend in force they could outvote the main ports, with about 44 votes.
