Northland Boxing Trainers’Association
At a recent meeting in Whangarei, a Northland Boxing Trainers’ Association was formed. The idea originated in the minds ox boxing enthusiasts in VVhangarei, who convened the meeting with the intention of forming a VVhangarei association. . Interest, however, came from a wider area and trainers from Olamatea and Bay of Islands attended. It was then unanimously agreed to form a Northland association. Since this body came into being, several trainers in outlying districts around the North have become interested and the future of the association appears to be assured. The Northland association intends staging a series of tournaments and, when the necessary experience in organisation has been gained, anticipates securing permits from the police department for the holding of major tournaments at various centres throughout the North. The following officers were elected at the inaugural meeting: President, Mr VV. J. McConnell; vicepresident, Mr J. Platt; secretary, Mr S. Bignell; committee, Messrs A. Brooks (Maungaturoto), W. A. Helleur and the Northland Physical Welfare Officer (Mr N. Helleur) ex officio.
