AUCKLAND, Tues. (Sp.h—The president of the New Zealand Liberal Party Mr K. A. Lowe,'teacher and housemaster at Wesley College, Paerata will contest the Franklin seat for his party at the general election. Mr Lowe was for a period secretary of the Taumarunui branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute. He was elected , president of the Liberal Party earlier this year. During the war, he served with the R.N.Z.A.F.
The 40 public telephones in Hamilton are to be replaced by. new ones imported from England. Readily adaptable to take a variety of coins for toll calls, the telephones have many advantages over the old ones. A new system is employed, the coin - being inserted before the dialling commences. The coin will be refunded if the number required is engaged.
