No effort is being spared-to bring into production Crown lands in Northland suitable for ex-service settlement said the Northland supervisoi of servicemen’s settlements in Whangarei (Mr C. Harrigan). He was commenting on a statement by the Auckland provincial president of Federated Farmers (Mr J. Scott-Davidson) that thousands of acres of Crown lands were available for settlement and this land should be used before other land was acquired. Mr Harrigan said that his work entailed the supervision of blocks which bad been handed over to be brought to a productive standard, and he had no figures on other Crown landHe knew from his experience in developing the 550-acre Kerikeri block that the development of rough land ivas a long job, and, while the Keriseri land was intended for civilian settlement, it was possible that exservicemen would be settled there.
