Agree, But Not Pleased

CANBERRA, Tue. (1.30 p.m.).— The ■ Australian Wheatgrowers’ Federation agreed at a special conference to Australia’s participation in the international wheat agreement, but protested strongly at the forcing down of wheat prices under the agreement. The meeting was held after four representatives of the federation had conferred with the Minister of Commerce and Agriculture (Mr R. T. Pollard) and the Secretary of the Department of Commerce (Mr E. McCarthy). Mr McCarthy outlined the discussions at Washington and explained the points in the agreement. The representative of the Farmers and Settlers’ Association objected strongly to Australia’s participation in the agreement, but the majority of growers agreed that if India and other nearby purchasers of wheat and flour became signatories, Australia had no other course available but to participate.
