Tributes To Late Mr G. N. Morris
AUCKLAND. Tue., (P.A.).—“A remarkable man who has left a record of splendid public service and a happy memory to those privileged to have his friendship,” said Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M.. paying tribute today to the late Mr G. N. Morris, a former magistrate who died on Saturday while visiting Wellington. The courtroom was filled with legal men and police officers. Also on the bench were the mag* istrates, Mr R. Jenner Wily and Mr F. McCarthy. “The strain of a philosopher ran through Mr Morris’Mr Luxford continued.
“He had a profound knowledge of fiuman beings and a sympathetic understanding of their problems.” His work as a magistrate was distinguished by patience, impartiality and courtesy. Mr Morris’ administration of Niue Island deserved the highest praise. Referring to Mr Morris’ literary works, Mr Luxford said that through him the marvel of Katherine Mansfield as a person and an author had been made imperishable. Tribute to Mr Morris was also paid by Mr V. N. Hubble, president of the Auckland Law Society.
