Demand Recall Of British Governor
LAHORE, Mon. (11 a.m.) The working corhmittee of the West Punjab Muslim League today demanded the immediate recall of Sir Francis Mudie, British Governor of the province, and the appointment of a Pakistani in his place. Sir Francis assumed the administration of the province in January, when the Governor General (Khwaja Nazimuddin) dismissed the provincial Government and legislature, because “public life had been demoralised by corruption.” He has recently been criticised by a section of the Pakistan press. The committee alleged today that the administration, “as presided over by a European Governor, has been indulging in intrigues to sap the league from within and without.
“The autocratic regime under the Governor has assumed unprecedented proportions.” The league claimed that “special care has been taken of elements who wore the apron strings of democracy during the days of British imperialism.” ®
