Matakohe Library, Hall To Be Closed
PAPAROA, Fri. (O.C.).—The Matakohe public library and hall will be closed as from next Wednesday. This was decided at the library and hall society’s annual meeting this week.
The reason lies in the extremely poor support accorded the society in recent years by the general public. As the hall is the only one in Matakohe, organisations staging regular functions , will be placed in an invidious position.
Originally called for May 2, the annual meeting could not be held on that date as only eight members attended, and 10 is necessary to form a quorum. Only nine members . arrived for Tuesday night’s meeting. CALLED FROM BED Finally, in order to obtain a quorum and proceed with business, a nearby resident, who was already abed, was persuaded to dress and attend. Similar trouble was experienced when the annual meeting was called last year. Mr N. McQueen was in the chair and, when the election of officers was under way, it was discovered that, when the president, vice-president and secretary had been elected, the remaining members present were insufficient to elect a committee of a size conforming to the society’s rules. Messrs N. McQueen, K. Smith and W Erne were 1 .-elected president, vice-president and secretary-treasurer respectively.
