Heifer Makes 130 Gn. At Worthington Sale
AN in-calf pedigree Jersey heifer sold for 130gn to make th& top price at the special reduction sale of Messrs G. and E. Worthington’s Midland and Midvale stud at Maungaturoto yesterday. ;
This was the second sale of Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd’s Northland Jersey week, and it was apparent as the auction progressed that breeders were placing emphasis on both quality and butterfat. Cattle of good type and with impressive butterfat qualifications created plenty of interest, while those with less backing were not so keenly sought.
The bidding generally was not quite so free as it was at the first sale of the week, when Mr R. J. Duddy’s Broadlee Jerseys were offered. By comparison with values ruling during Jersey week last season, it would appear that realisations so far have been slightly lower.
The ISOgn heifer was Midvale Brenda, purchased by Mr A- G. Clow Jnr.' of Cambridge. The average realisation was 34 gn., this figure being the average price at which both cows and heifers changed hands.
