Maungatapere Infant Micytress Fa rewelled
Mrs M. A. Preston, infant mistress at the Maungatapere School for the past three years was farewelled at an afternoon function at the school this week.
Mrs Preston, who is leaving to make her home in the Te Puke district, has resigned from the teaching service as from May 6. The headmaster (Mr R. E. Butler) expressed the children’s, and his own regret at Mrs Preston’s departure, and also regret that during most of her period at Maungatapere Mrs Preston had to work under such difficult conditions in a hopelessly overcrowded room.
On behalf of the school committee Mr T. Harman expressed appreciation of Mrs Preston’s services during her term at the school, and. wished her and Mr Preston health and every happiness in Te Puke. Shirley Kerr, on behalf of the school children, expressed regret at Mrs Preston’s leaving, and presented her with a silver cake dish from the children.
After Mrs Preston had suitably replied Gwen Edge presented her with a shoulder spray from the upper school, and Carol Phillips with a bouquet from the lower classes.
