‘Enemy Agents’ In U.S. Ordnance Depot
LONDON, Tue., (11 a.m.).—An American Army spokesman revealed in Heidleberg today that two Germans, working as mock enemy agents, “blew up” an important rail connection leading to the military ordnance depot at Mannheim within 75 yards of posted sentries, during the first phase of the United States zone’s full-dress spring troops’ manoeuvres. The officer said that two Germans, dressed as workmen by American intelligence teams, succeeded in entering the guarded depot and simulated the placing and exploding of dummy bomb charges at the connection. The officer said the simulated sabotage was the first of a number of surprises which American intelligence units plan to spring on the 70.000 troops defending the zone against an imaginary aggressor from the east Foreign observers at the exercise include Brigader General Clark Harman, deputy commander of the Western district of the Swedish Army; Major Tori Undberg, of the Swedish Armoured Corps; Major Bertil Broberg, of the Swedish infantry; Major General August Vanderkroon. Dutch military attache to France, and Major General A- C. Opsomer, of the Royal Netherlands Army.
