WELLINGTON. Mon. (Sp.).—The New Zealand Geological Survey is to survey the .South Auckland coal resources with the new seismic prospecting unit imported from America. This work will probably commence after the survey for natural steam is completed. Coal is thought to extend'from Huntly to Drury. Another task for this unit will be to speed up and enlarge on the Survey work required for the proposed hydroelectric stations on the Waikato River. In all about 15 years of investigations can be foreseen in South Auckland and a new permanent office of the Geological Survey is to be established soon in Rotorua.
