Wallace Beery Dead At 69
SAN FRANCISCO, Sun. The veteran film actor Wallace Beery has died at the age of 69. Born on a Kansas farm and educated in Kansas City, he joined a circus at the age of 16 and later became a singer in musical comedy. His first film performance in 1913, was as a female impersonator. He made his dramatic debut in Marshall Neilan’s "The Unpardonable Sin.” Some of his more notable character roles were in "The Big House,” “Hell Divers,” “The Champ," “Grand Hotel,” “The Good Old Soak,” “Treasure Island,” and “Tugboat Annie.” More recently his films have included “Salute to the Marines,” “Gold Town,” “The Honest Thief.” and “This Man’s Navy.” In 1934 he was awarded a medal as “the world's best movie actor.” He was voted among the ten best money-making stars in pictures in 1932, 1933. 1934, 1935 and 1940.
