Atom To Aid Fight Against Cancer

WASHINGTON, Sun. (1 p.m.).—The United States Atomic Energy Commission announced that its entire range of radio-active isotypes would be made available free in the battle against cancer.

More than 50 different kinds o'" radio-active elements now being sold will be supplied free to qualified American scientists studying the cause, nature, .diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

The commission has set aside $450,000 for the first year of its new campaign against the malady, which now kills 200,000 Americans a year. Among ray-emitting atoms which will be supplied free for cancer research is “Cobalt 60” which the commission said promises to become an effective substitute for the rare and costly radium.
