RNZAF Men Faghf Big Serab Fire
AUCKLAND, Mon. (Sp.).— Officers and men of the RNZAF Station. Whenuapai. using two crash tenders, a Territorial Air Force van and another van, put out an extensive scrub and gress fire near Redvale, about 20 miles north of Auckland yesterday. The fire was seen about 3 p.m. from Whenuapai by Flying Officer E. W. Ziesler and Flight Lieutenant E. P. Williams, DFM. They drove to the scene and found a man and two women attempting to extinguish an extensive blaze. Back at camp the airman turned out two crash tenders and two vans. These vehicles took about 15 men to the fire. Communications were maintained between the Air Force station and the fire-fighters, one of the crash tenders being fitted with radio.
The fire was reported to be under control and the' men returned to Whenuapai shortly after 6.30 p.m.
